Freddie Woodman has not made a Premier League appearance for Newcastle United this season and could reportedly join Arsenal or Celtic.
Arsenal are leading the race to sign highly rated Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman ahead of Celtic this summer, according to the Shields Gazette.
The 22-year-old has been tipped for big things ever since helping England win the U20 World Cup in 2017, winning the tournament’s Golden Glove award after saving a penalty in the final against Venezuela.
But he has failed to kick on since then, thanks in part to the impressive Martin Dubravka, with his three Newcastle appearances this season coming in the FA Cup.
Nonetheless, Woodman has still caught the eye of Arsenal, with the North London giants keen to sign a replacement for the retiring Petr Cech.
The report adds that the shot-stopper is unlikely to extend a contract that expires in 2020 and a move to The Emirates would reunite him with his father, Andy, who now works in the Gunners’ academy.
It is claimed that Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are also big fans of Woodman, who has spent time north of the border during loan spells at Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.
Celtic have continued to scout the young Englishman, perhaps seeing him as Craig Gordon’s long-term replacement, but it seems Arsenal are his most likely destination as it stands.
