Premier League giants West Ham United have been linked with a big money move to bring Anderlecht’s Belgian star Leander Dendoncker to the London Stadium.
Since David Moyes hinted that he would be interested in bringing in a new midfielder after West Ham’s EFL Cup loss to Arsenal in December, the London giants have been linked with a whole host of potential transfers.
But now a new name has entered the frame. And it appears that he has emerged as Moyes’ January priority.
Belgian publication Nieuwsblad broke the news on Monday that West Ham are interested in signing Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker, a real powerhouse of a midfielder who has been heavily linked with both Everton and Manchester United in recent months.
It is understood that Anderlecht will consider parting with the 22-year-old if they receive an offer of around £18 million.
And considering just how much Moyes admires the latest rising star of Belgian football, do not be too surprised if an opening offer is made sooner rather than later.
Because DH claims that Dendoncker is something of a dream signing for the Scot. And it is not hard to see why.
West Ham have a midfield full of specialists like Cheikhou Kouyate, Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang, hard-working ball-winners whose distribution falls a little on the safe side.
Dendoncker, however, is a box-to-box player who can pose a real threat in the opposition penalty area. Manchester United discovered that themselves when he netted a thumping header against them in the Europa League quarter-finals last season.
Interestingly, it appears that Moyes is the man pushing for the transfer, which may come as a relief to West Ham fans.
Over the last few years, it has been unclear whether certain players have been brought to the club by the managers or whether owners David Gold and David Sullivan were behind the deal.
