Allan Saint-Maximin is expected to leave Ligue 1 outfit Nice for Premier League side Newcastle United but will Steve Bruce’s Magpies pay £25m?
Newcastle United are increasingly confident of landing Allan Saint-Maximin after the Nice winger told his teammates that he wants to swap the French Riviera for the north east of England, according to the Mirror (26 July, page 61).
It had been a miserable summer for Magpies fans with Rafa Benitez walking away to be replaced by the far from popular Steve Bruce.
But things might just be looking up again at St James’ Park. Newcastle have broken their transfer record for the second time in 2019 alone with Joelinton arriving from Hoffenheim for a staggering £36 million.
Now, it looks as if he will be joined on Tyneside by one of the most skilful and exciting footballers in France. And no, it wouldn’t be too much to describe Saint-Maximin as the second coming of Hatem Ben Arfa.
According to the Mirror, Newcastle are ‘increasingly confident’ of sealing a deal for the former Monaco flyer despite having a £14 million bid turned down.
And it seems that Saint-Maximin himself is on board, telling his Nice colleagues that he’s keen to move.
The Ligue 1 outfit apparently want £25 million for their prized asset so there is still work to do. But, should Newcastle meet Nice’s demands, they could have a front three next season with a value of £81 million.
And with the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Jamaal Lascelles and Martin Dubravka behind them, Newcastle still have the basis of a very competetive Premier League outfit.
