Norwich City will let yet another experienced player leave with plenty of clubs interested in rescuing out-of-favour midfielder Alex Tettey.
Norwich City’s decision to cast off the majority of their most experienced players and hire a manager without a shred of English football experience was always likely be to a risk. And, so far, it has not reaped any rewards.
A humiliating 4-0 defeat at newly promoted Millwall on Saturday means Norwich have lost three of their first five Championship games under former Dortmund reserve coach Daniel Farke, conceding eight times in the last two league outings.
You wonder whether the manager wishes he could call on the services of Jonny Howson, John Ruddy, Ryan Bennett, Michael Turner, Graham Dorrans and co, all of whom were let go in the summer and left Norwich with a lack of second-tier nous.
Yet, it appears that their worrying start to the season will not stop Norwich from shipping out another long-serving player before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Flying the Canaries’ nest
The Mirror (live blog, 5.21am 27/08/2017) reports that midfielder Alexander Tettey has been made available for a cut-price fee of just £1 million. With that sort of bargain on the table, it’s little surprise clubs in both the Championship and Premier League are circling.
34-time Norwegian international Tettey moved to Carrow Road from Ligue 1 side Rennes five years ago, his stunning 30-yard volley against Sunderland in March 2014 one of the club’s best ever top flight goals.
However, injuries have taken their toll in recent times and Tettey does not appear to be part of Farke’s plans, featuring for only 16 minutes this season.
Although his work rate and reliable passing ensures he would be more valued elsewhere, with a return to the Premier League on the cards.
