Ajax are renowned across the continent as an elite finishing school for some of the most promising young talents in world football.

Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld have emerged in Amsterdam in recent years while Andre Onana, David Neres, Kasper Dolberg and Frenkie De Jong also look set for the very top after shining in the famous red and white kit.

But Ki-Jana Hoever has taken a faster route to one of Europe’s major leagues, joining Liverpool at the age of just 16.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the teenage full back was wanted by clubs such as Manchester City and Chelsea but has been convinced that working under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield is the best thing for his development.

And Hoever’s departure hasn’t gone down well in the Dutch capital. The Echo adds that Ajax are ‘devastated’ to lose one of their most highly-rated talents.

As he had not signed a professional contract, Liverpool will only have to pay a minimal compensation fee the Holland U16 international, who is a right-back by trade but is expected to develop into a centre-half in the coming years.

Klopp has shown no concerns about giving youth a chance, making Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and co key parts of his first-team.
