Jan Siewert has left Huddersfield Town but the Championship strugglers could turn to Karanka, Rowett or ex-QPR caretaker John Eustace.
Aitor Karanka is keen to take over at Huddersfield Town while the Championship strugglers are also considering Gary Rowett and John Eustace, according to Sky Sports.
It has been a miserable 12 months for the Terriers and they began the new campaign with a whimper rather than a bark. After two defeats and a draw, Huddersfield are second-from bottom in the table and dispensed with the services of head coach Jan Siewert following Friday’s 2-1 loss at home to Fulham.
Siewert might have followed in the footsteps of David Wagner by arriving in South Yorkshire from Borussia Dortmund’s reserves but that is where the similarities ended.
Yet Karanka, a coach with a fine track record in the Championship, should represent a substantial upgrade; on paper at least.
The 45-year-old led Middlesbrough to the Premier League in 2016, after all, finishing runner-up behind Burnley. Karanka’s 12-month spell at Nottingham Forest was far less successful by comparison but many supporters at the City Ground were still rather baffled by the decision to sack the Spaniard in January 2019.
Karanka has been out of work for seven months but Sky claims that he’s keen to discuss taking over at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Huddersfield are also looking at Rowett, who has coached Birmingham City, Derby County and Stoke with mixed success in the Championship, and former QPR caretaker Eustace.
