Wolverhampton Wanderers will apparently do battle with Premier League rivals Arsenal for Argentina international defender Kannemann.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are indeed interested in signing Argentina international Walter Kannemann, with Globo Esporte claiming that they have received confirmation from his agent, Martin Wainbuch.

The tough-tackling Gremio enforcer appears set to make a belated move to Europe, having spent his entire career to date in Argentina, Mexico and now Brazil.

The Mail reported at the weekend that Wolves have expressed an interest with Gremio willing to sell a player known as ‘The Viking’ due to his uncompromising style for a bargain £10.2 million.

Brazilian publication Globo Esporte have now done their own digging and they have been told by Kannemann’s representative that he has been contacted by the Premier League high-flyers, although Wolves are yet to return with an official offer.

Wainbuch claims that Gremio want more than the £10.2 million claimed by The Mail, stating that the five-time Argentina international will cost closer to £13.5 million. Arsenal, a team who are crying out for a veritable hard man at centre-back, are also apparently in the race.

Averaging 3.7 tackles per game and an 82 per cent pass completion rate, Kannemann is both technically gifted and willing to throw his body on the line in search of three points. It is that sort of commitment and quality which could potentially pave the way for his chance in the Premier League.
