Wolverhampton Wanderers appeared to make a new centre-forward their top priority this month but, with just two days remaining in the January transfer window, none have arrived at Molineux to take the pressure off Raul Jimenez.

There is still time, however.

And reports from Sport24 on Monday claimed that the highly-rated Iranian international Serdar Azmoun could be on his way to the Black Country from Rubin Kazan.

The 24-year-old, who has been likened to a certain Lionel Messi in his homeland, has scored an outstanding 28 goals in 45 caps for Iran, including four at the Asian Cup. His form at club level, four in 14 Russian Premier League games this season, is not quite as impressive.

Nonetheless, it seems that Wolves are willing to give Azmoun a chance.

And Voetbal Nieuws have provided a promising update on Tuesday. It is understood Rubin Kazan are willing to accept just £9 million, something of a bargain fee in today’s over-inflated transfer market.

Given that Azmoun is just 24, he has plenty of time to improve and his market value would surely sky-rocket should he impress in the top flight of English football.

The report adds that Anderlecht and Club Brugge are interested but Azmoun is unsure about joining a Belgium club. Bayer Leverkusen are also expected to offer him a chance in the Bundesliga.
