Nasser El Khayati swapped Burton Albion for Queens Park Rangers in 2016 but was let go after just four Championship starts for the Loftus Road side
It never really worked out for Nasser El Khayati at Queens Park Rangers.
The playmaker followed his former Burton Albion manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to Loftus Road in 2016 but, rather like the Chelsea legend, he didn’t last too long.
El Khayati made just four Championship starts for QPR, scoring once and setting up one more, before returning to Holland in the summer of 2017. According to West London Sport, Ian Holloway decided that El Khayati wasn’t part of his plans once he replaced Hasselbaink at the helm and the midfielder soon had his contract terminated.
But maybe QPR acted a little too quickly in writing off the Rotterdam-born forward.
Because he has thrived since joining ADO Den Haag on a free transfer a year ago.
Eleven goals and eleven assists in the Eredivisie last season was an impressive tally but the early signs are that El Khayati is taking his game to a new level.
The 29-year-old has already netted six in four for ADO in 2018/19. And he produced one of the best individual displays anywhere in Europe this weekend, netting all four of his side’s goals in a 4-2 win away at Excelsior.
After coolly converting a first-half penalty, El Khayati hit the net with three beautifully taken long-range strikes, showcasing the kind of quality that encouraged QPR to sign him in the first place.
