Wolverhampton Wanderers have won their last two Premier League games and on-loan Benfica striker Raul Jimenez was the hero against Burnley.
Wolverhampton Wanderers sealed their first home win back in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon and Raul Jimenez was the hero of the hour.
The on-loan Benfica striker netted the only goal against Burnley early in the second half, intelligently converting a Matt Doherty cut-back. But it is fair to say Sean Dyche’s bottom-of-the-table side were quite lucky to only lose by a one-goal margin.
Wolves had 30 shots on goal at Molineux, the likes of Diogo Jota, Helder Costa and Jimenez himself missing fantastic opportunities to make the victory far more convincing.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have enjoyed a solid start to life back in the top flight and are ninth in the table as things stand. But Jimenez has pointed out one area where Wolves need to improve and the fans will surely agree.
“We are focused on that, possession, having a lot of shots,” the Mexican international, who also scored on the opening day against Everton, told the Express and Star.
“It’s amazing. All the game, we have possession and we’re always thinking of the net of the other team.
“Maybe we have to score more. We had a lot of opportunities to do it.”
Jimenez has impressed since moving to the Black Country from Lisbon, linking up intelligently with his teammates and providing a focal point in attack.
But he has never been a prolific goalscorer and neither has back-up striker Leo Bonatini, who is without a league goal since December 2017. It remains to be seen whether this profligacy prevents Nuno’s gifted side from fulfilling their potential this season.
