Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield has been tipped to swap the Premier League for Ibrox, with Josh Windass’s potential Leeds United move freeing up space.

Josh Windass of Rangers has a shot on goal during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers FC and Celtic FC at Ibrox Stadium on April 29, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers face a difficult decision about what to do with Josh Windass.

As reported by the Daily Record, the midfielder is keen to stay at Ibrox for the long-term and is hopeful of being offered a contract extension by Director of Football Mark Allen.

But the report adds that Rangers are set to receive a substantial offer from Championship giants Leeds United for Windass’s services.

It is understood they will offer far more than the £500,000 put on the table by Preston North End, meaning Rangers would earn a substantial profit on a player they signed for a minimal fee back in the summer of 2016.

Josh Windass of Rangers looks dejected after the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on April 29, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Windass has been one of Rangers’ stand-out performers since Graeme Murty replaced Pedro Caixinha back in October, netting six times in his last 11 games. But for the fee Rangers would receive for the 24-year-old, they could reinvest it in the squad or sign a player of proven Premier League quality.

According to the Mirror (live transfer blog, 3.28pm) Rangers are battling West Ham and Crystal Palace to sign Scottish-born Canada international Scott Arfield.

The midfielder has just six months left on his contract at Burnley and could therefore be available on a cut-price fee; a deal Rangers could possibly afford if they were to cash in on Windass this month.

Scott Arfield of Burnley is tackled during the Premier League match between Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor on December 23, 2017 in Burnley, England.

And while Windass has emerged as a key player, even filling in on the left when required, Arfield is a player who has impressed in England’s top flight over the last few years and would arguably be an upgrade on the talented former Accrington Stanley man.

Arfield may be five years older but he would be joining Rangers at the peak of his powers.

But will Rangers cash in on Windass to fund a deal?
