Rangers manager Mark Warburton is said to be keeping his options open for January.
Rangers are said to be interested in signing out-of-favour Norwich City playmaker Sergi Canos in January, the Express reports, but what impact could the deal have on their hopes of signing top target Jota?
Former Liverpool youngster Canos, who learned his trade in the famed Barcelona academy, starred on loan at Mark Warburton’s former club Brentford in 2015/16, picking up the club’s Goal of the Season award with a sublime, controlled volley against Reading.
Such moments of inspired brilliance have been few and far between from him at Carrow Road, however, making only five first-team appearances, and none since October, despite moving in the summer for £2.5 million.

The Express adds that Rangers are interested in handing the 19-year-old a lifeline, with Warburton stating recently that the club were very close to adding a midfielder to their ranks to compensate for the absence of skilful creator Niko Kranjcar.
Many interpreted Warburton’s quotes as a reference to Brentford midfielder Jota, who’s 11 goals from midfield helped spearhead The Bees run to the play-offs in 2014/15.
However, the Spaniard has struggled for game time on loan at Eibar, with reports suggesting that Brentford would be willing to terminate his temporary deal and allow him to reunite with his former boss at Ibrox.

Current Bees manager Dean Smith recently dismissed the reports as “just speculation”, and Rangers’ apparent interest in Canos could be interpreted as something of a back-up plan.
