Jermain Defoe’s hat-trick fired Steven Gerrard’s Rangers two points clear of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.

Jermain Defoe has made it clear that he is loving life at a ‘massive’ club like Rangers, speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT (14 October, 11.30am), while pointing out that the Scottish Premiership leaders are confident of wrestling the title back off Celtic.
Defoe may be 37 these days but he still makes finding the back of the net look like second nature. The former England international has scored 12 goals in just 14 games this season with a hat-trick in the recent 5-0 thrashing of Hamilton Academical taking Steven Gerrard’s side two points clear of Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the table.
And a striker who has turned out for the likes of West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland believes he could hardly be at a better club in the autumn years a storied career while firing a warning at neighbours and reigning champions Celtic.
“I always knew it was a massive club. I just feel blessed to get a chance to play for such a massive club. its special,” Defoe said. “When I got the phone call (to come to Rangers) it was an easy decision. I’m loving it here.
We’re confident, when I look at the players beside me you have to be confident. There’s a lot of internationals, young players who are hungry.
“You have to respect Celtic but I feel that if we continue to keep doing what we’re doing, and the spirit we have now in the club, its only a matter of time before we achieve something special.”

Defoe is on loan at Rangers from Bournemouth until next summer but the veteran goal-machine has admitted that he would relish the opportunity to end his playing career in Glasgow amid suggestions that he could make the transition into coaching at Ibrox.
“I would love to (retire here). When I left Tottenham, I didn’t feel I’d get a chance to play European football again but European nights at Ibrox are special.”
With Defoe and Alfredo Morelos scoring for fun, Rangers have won all of their last four Premiership games with an aggregate score of 17-1.
Suddenly, Celtic no longer appear to be the odds-on favourite for a ninth successive league title.
