Joe Aribo has been a brilliant signing with Steven Gerrard’s Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers paying Charlton Athletic just £300,000.

Former Nigeria forward Victor Ikpeba has been left blown away by Rangers star Joe Aribo after he danced through the Brazil defence to score a wonderful individual goal during a friendly clash this week, speaking to Soccernet.

It’s not often that a man who plies his trade at Ibrox scores against the five-time World Champions. But there was nothing that Thiago Silva and Marquinhos could do to stop Aribo from powering his way into the box in Singapore, jinking past a couple of desperate tackles before calmly rolling the ball past Ederson Moraes.

It was a moment of sheer class from the former Charlton Athletic midfielder, a goal worthy of Roberto Firmino, Gabriel Jesus or Neymar themselves.

“Credit to Aribo for the sublime goal he scored against the five-time World Champions,” said Ikpeba, a forward who played 31 times for the Super Eagles between 1992 and 2002.

“He’s such a wonderful player and I am delighted to see him play quality football for Nigeria. Joe Aribo is an exceptional player and he has shown the coach Gernot Rohr that he is ready to claim a regular shirt.”

Aribo has only played two games for Nigeria but he has scored in each. Prior to that wonderful individual effort against the reigning Copa America champions, the 23-year-old found the net in a 2-2 draw against Ukraine with the youngster quickly earning comparisons with the legendary Jay-Jay Okocha, not to mention former Chelsea enforcer Michael Essien.

Rangers paid just £300,000 to sign Aribo from Charlton this summer (the Scotsman) and he should be worth at least ten times that now.
