Rangers and MK Dons are haggling over a deal for Rob Kiernan, but Pedro Caixinha may be forced to accept defeat and reduce his asking price.

Few Rangers supporters will be lining the streets to wave Rob Kiernan off as he heads over the horizon. The defender has long been the subject of criticism from supporters and it appears that those baying for blood will get their wish this summer.

The Daily Record claimed that manager Pedro Caixinha was willing to let Kiernan leave as he sets about overhauling his squad. The former Wigan Athletic defender was a regular under Mark Warburton until his departure in February but, thanks largely to injury, failed to make an impact under Caixinha.

Youngsters Aiden Wilson and David Bates seized their chance in his absence while the addition of Portuguese pair Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso has pushed Kiernan further down the pecking order.

And the Scottish Sun reports that he may be offered an escape route out of Ibrox this summer with MK Dons interested. The League One club, managed by former Hearts boss Robbie Nielson, will give the 26-year-old the chance to kick-start his career.

However, the report adds that they are struggling to meet Rangers’ £200,000 valuation and have instead enquired about taking Kiernan on an initial six-month loan deal.

Yet this does not appear to benefit any party. Kiernan appears to have no future at Ibrox to the best solution would be to get him off the wage bill on a permanent basis.

Therefore, with the Daily Record claiming that Rangers would be willing to let Kiernan leave on a free, the Ibrox giants should perhaps reduce their asking price to ensure they at least make some money back on Caixinha’s forgotten man.
