St Mirren’s prolific midfielder Lewis Morgan was let go by Rangers as a youngster and now Sheffield United want to bring him to England.

Though Sheffield United have cruised to promotion from League One this season, Blades boss Chris Wilder will know that a new goalscorer is a must in the summer.
Beyond the evergreen Billy Sharp (above) – Sheffield United’s runaway top scorer – no other player in the title-chasing squad has hit double figures in the League. In fact, only Kieran Freeman and Mark Duffy have netted five or more.
The Daily Mail reports that Wilder is tracking St Mirren’s 20-year-old midfielder Lewis Morgan, and that makes perfect sense. The Buddies may have endured a traumatic campaign, sitting just three points above the bottom of the Scottish second tier, but Morgan has somehow thrived in a struggling squad.
Morgan’s scored nine goals and produced an impressive 12 assists this season, suggesting that he could add extra firepower and creativity to a Sheffield United side preparing for the Championship for the first time in six years.
Their gain, however, could be very much Rangers’ loss. Unless, of course, the Glasgow giants are spurred into action by English interest in one of Scotland’s most exciting talents.

Morgan, after all, started his career in Rangers’ youth academy but was allowed to leave for St Mirren in 2012. And, after bursting onto the scene in a prolific 2016/17 season, the Ibrox chiefs will surely be ruing their decision to let the talented midfielder go.
Now could be the perfect time, however, to bring him home. After all, Bournemouth loanee Emerson Hyndman will depart in the summer when his contract runs out, while doubts persist about the future of Barrie McKay (below) after he reportedly turned down a new Rangers deal.

Morgan’s thrust in the final third could be exactly what Rangers new manager Pedro Caixinha is looking for. Rangers, however, will not be short of competition.
