David Wheater has left Bolton Wanderers and he is reportedly on his way to the Scottish Premiership but will Rangers show an interest?

Rangers might have finally completed the signing of George Edmundson in June but there is still room for one more centre-back at Ibrox.
After all, Gareth McAuley’s departure means Rangers have lost their most experienced defender, albeit one who found game time very hard to come by under Steven Gerrard during a forgettable 2018/19 campaign.
According to the Daily Record, the Glasgow giants have renewed their interest in Martin Skrtel with Gerrard’s former Liverpool team-mate on his way out of Fenerbahce. The veteran Slovakian wouldn’t come cheap, however, due to his substantial wage demands and there are certainly more affordable options out there.
Take David Wheater, for example. Like Skrtel, he has plenty of experience and would bring plenty of nous and leadership to Ibrox.

He is two years younger that Skrtel, however, and still has plenty left to give.
According to the Record, Kilmarnock are interested in bringing Wheater to Rugby Park after his contract at crisis-ridden Bolton Wanderers came to an end but Rangers could do a lot worse than to take a leaf of their book.
With Rangers looking to balance European and domestic commitments next season, they need all the depth they can get.
