By August, it will be two years since Reece Oxford made his Premier League bow in West Ham’s 2-0 opening day victory against Arsenal at the Emirates.
Then aged just 16, the classy centre-back shone out of position in central midfield, thus becoming England’s next big thing and spawning links with almost every club above the Hammers in the Premier League table.
Fast-forward to the present day, however, and a career that exploded into life has become something of a slow burner. The now-18-year-old did not play a single minute of Premier League football in 2016/17 and, during a loan spell at Reading, only made the starting XI twice.
Now, The Mirror report that he could be shunted out on loan as West Ham seek to give him more first-team opportunities. And Borussia Monchengladbach could be something of a left-field destination.
The Bundesliga giants finished ninth in the top flight last season, missing out on European football, but have demonstrated a capacity for improving young talents. After all, Andreas Christensen is likely to return to parent club Chelsea this summer as one of the continent’s best young defenders after two impressive seasons at Borussia Park.

However, this should spark Rangers into life. The Scottish Sun claim that the Ibrox giants were interested in taking Oxford on loan in January, though the England youth international admitted that Reading’s passing philosophy encouraged him to choose the Madejski instead.
Although under Pedro Caixinha, Rangers’ style of play is likely to suit the classy and composed Oxford. And with Clint Hill likely to be followed out of the exit door by Rob Kiernan, he would surely feature far more regularly at Ibrox than he did at Reading.

Furthermore, manager Pedro Caixinha has shown that he is not averse to giving young players an opportunity. Teenagers Myles Beerman and Aiden Wilson, plus fellow starlet David Bates, all made their debuts under the Portuguese so Oxford would certainly be handled with trust and care at Ibrox.
It is a deal that would benefit both parties.
