Championship hopefuls Swansea City reportedly wanted Kilmarnock’s Jordan Jones, but he’s reportedly heading to Scottish Premiership chasers Rangers instead.

After a bright start to the season, there has been a few murmurs of discontent bubbling underneath the surface at Swansea City.

Notwithstanding a 4-1 thrashing of Reading on New Years’ Day, goals have been rather hard to come by at times this season. Graham Potter’s youthful side have looked a little toothless on occasions and a tally of 35 goals in 26 Championship games is respectable without being impressive.

So no wonder they were targeting a January deal for Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones, according to The Mail.

The Northern Ireland international isn’t the most prolific of goalscorers but he is a quick, direct and unpredictable player who could have offered Swansea a genuine match-winning option in games where they aren’t quite clicking.

But it seems that Jones has slipped through Swansea’s grasp with Sky Sports reporting on Friday that Jones is undergoing a medical at Rangers before signing a pre-contract agreement with the Ibrox giants.

And this could prove to be a big missed opportunity for Swansea, whose lack of a real clinical touch has seen them fall to 12th in the Championship table, seven points adrift of the top six.

Furthermore, with money tight at the Liberty Stadium, The Swans might struggle to find a player as talented as Jones who would be available for quite so cheap.
