Greg Docherty is on loan at League One side Shrewsbury Town after failing to make an impact at Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.

Greg Docherty might be spending the season on loan at Shrewsbury Town after being deemed surplus to requirements by Steven Gerrard but he’s made clear that he isn’t giving up on his Rangers future just yet.
“I will go back to Rangers next season and I will still only be 22,” Docherty told the Scottish Sun.
“When the chance of a loan came about I did a lot of research about players who went on loan and how it benefitted them. I looked at Callum McGregor (who spent the 2013/14 season at Notts County). He is now a starter for Scotland and Celtic.
“David Beckham went on loan when he was a youngster at Man United. It’s all part of learning and I know I still have so much to learn. I have to hope this loan can benefit me as much as it did them.”
Docherty only moved to Rangers in January in a £675,000 deal from Hamilton. But the 22-year-old’s hopes of a future at Ibrox could be hit by latest claims that Lassana Coulibaly could be set for a long-term stay in Glasgow.

Coulibaly has been terrific since his loan move from Angers. And the Scottish Sun claims that Rangers are already keen to tie down the 22-year-old on a permanent basis next summer.
The arrival of Coulibaly was surely one of the reasons why Docherty, who had been pushed down the pecking order, was allowed to leave over the summer. And, should the Mali international stay, Docherty could still struggle for game time no matter how much he impresses at Shrewsbury.
