Daniel Candeias was Rangers’ Player of the Year in 2017/18 after a terrific debut season in the Scottish Premiership but is now barely featuring at Ibrox.

Daniel Candeias was one of the few successes of Pedro Caixinha’s Iberian transfer splurge. While the likes of Dalcio, Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso failed at Ibrox, the winger was a massive success after his £700,000 move from Benfica.
In all competitions, Candeias scored eight goals, set up 13 more and ended the season as Rangers’ Player of the Year.
But, since Steven Gerrard took over at the start of the summer, the 30-year-old’s stock has fallen. Jamie Murphy and Ryan Kent arrived, pushing Candeias down the pecking order to the extent that he has not made a league appearance so far in 2018/19.
All seven of his outings have come in cup competitions so far.
A long-term injury to Murphy looked to have given Candeias a chance to force his way back in but, instead, it seems that Gerrard’s focus is on bringing in a player from outside.

TEAMtalk state that Rangers are preparing a £500,000 move for Kilmarnock talisman Jordan Jones, while the Scottish Sun claims that Eros Grezda was in Glasgow for a medical on Monday night ahead of a £2 million move from Osijek.
So this does not look good for Candeias. From being Rangers’ star man in 2017/18, he could soon find himself slipping even further down the pecking order.
He is perhaps the biggest loser so far of the Gerrard tenure.
