Rangers have been linked with Australian A-League midfielder Brandon O’Neill.

Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Australian A-League midfielder Brandon O’Neill after a string of impressive performance for Sydney FC, but do Graeme Murty’s side really need him?
The Scottish Sun reported that the Gers are eyeing a move to sign the 23-year-old, who is eligible to play for Ireland despite representing Australia’s Under-23 side on two occasions.
Known for his ability to intercept and break up play in holding midfield as well as boasting an intricate array of passing the stamina to cover plenty of ground throughout 90 minutes, O’Neill is considered one of the A-League’s best midfielders.

However, his contract is set to expire in the summer with Sydney, and that has interested Rangers who have reportedly monitored the Perth Glory midfielder closely of late.
But do Rangers really need another central midfielder? There is no doubt that O’Neill has huge talent and would improve the Gers side, but Murty has plenty of options already at Ibrox in midfield.
Greg Docherty joined in January, as did Sean Goss on loan from QPR. Jason Holt and Andy Halliday remain on the fringes, while Ryan Jack, Graham Dorrans and Jordan Rossiter are struggling to fitness.

Jamie Barjonas is also coming through the ranks, and he needs first-team football to maximise his potential and needs a clear path into the senior side in order to that. O’Neill would provide another block in what is already a rocky road.
If the Gers are to sign O’Neill, they should look to offload two or even three of their central midfielders who are considered the most expendable. But otherwise, the Light Blues should look to improve other areas of their side.
