Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn have already scored seven Championship goals between them for Ipswich after summer moves from Rangers.
Ipswich Town are second in the Championship table, level on points with leaders Cardiff City as their 2-0 win over Brentford at the weekend maintained their 100% record in the league after four games.
It is an impressive start to the season for Mick McCarthy’s men, who are ahead of the division’s big spenders such as Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Joe Garner of Ipswich celebrates scoring his side’s first goal with his team mates during the Sky Bet Championship match against Millwall.
No team in the second tier has scored more than the Tractor Boys’ nine goals in 2017/18, with new signings Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn bagging seven of those between them.
It is enough to make Rangers green with envy, with both attackers having been sold to Ipswich this summer as part of a mass clearout under manager Pedro Caixinha.
To make matters worse, the Glasgow club received less than £2m for the pair of them – with the Scottish Sun reporting Garner cost £1m, while McCarthy himself was quoted by the Daily Record rubbishing claims Waghorn fetched the same:
“It’s not the million quid which has been reported, nowhere near that. It sounds good for the club and for Rangers I guess, but no.
“It’s an absolute snip. I’m thrilled we’ve got him.”
Martyn Waghorn of Rangers controls the ball during the William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final match against Celtic.
Waghorn has had four shots on target in his three games for the Suffolk side this term and has scored with each attempt, while Garner has three strikes from his first four outings.
Gers, meanwhile, have endured a tough start to the new Scottish Premiership campaign, drawing 0-0 at home to Hearts at the weekend to follow up a 3-2 defeat against Hibernian and opening day victory over Motherwell to leave them sixth in the table and already five points behind leaders Celtic.
