Ben Heneghan was reportedly a target for Glasgow Rangers in 2017 but he joined Sheffield United from Motherwell instead.

Ben Heneghan really needed this.
Sheffield United looked to have pulled off a coup when they beat a whole host of clubs to the talented Motherwell centre-back in the summer of 2017 but, for whatever reason, Heneghan quickly became the club’s forgotten man under Chris Wilder.
The Manchester-born defender made just one appearance for the Blades during the 2017/18 campaign so jumped at the chance to join Blackpool on loan last summer.
After that frustrating spell at Bramall Lane, Heneghan has seized the chance to rebuild his reputation with both hands.
A Rangers side who were heavily linked with Heneghan two years ago, as reported by Sky Sports, should consider looking at the 25-year-old again with Blackpool boss Terry McPhillips lauding his performances in Tangerine orange.
“He really has improved,” McPhillips told the Blackpool Gazette. “In training he puts his body on the line and that transfers into the games for him.
“With the quality he’s got as well, he can play, he can head, he can hit a diagonal. But his attitude to keeping the ball out of the net is second to none and there’s a bright future ahead for him.

“It’s a skill the way he defends, it’s a desire and he’s certainly got it in abundance. He’s had a terrific season for us and he’s got better and better, which bodes well for him.”
Rangers might be in need of defensive reinforcements in the summer, given that Joe Worrall is set to return to Nottingham Forest and the seldom-seen Gareth McAuley is out of contract.
If Sheffield United make their £400,000 flop available, and you can bet they probably will, it would not be a bad idea for Rangers to sign a proven Scottish Premiership defender in the form of his life.
