Hibernian and Hearts are reportedly interested in 15-goal Liam Boyce – but he could be the ideal replacement for Kenny Miller at Rangers.
After netting 15 goals in 29 games to keep Ross County out of the relegation battle this season, it is no surprise that a number of rivals have identified Liam Boyce as a potentially inspired summer signing.
According to the Daily Record, Edinburgh rivals Hearts and Hibernian, who have secured their promotion back to the top flight, are leading the chase for the Northern Irishman. Furthermore, Aberdeen, who reportedly made a move last summer, could renew their interest with doubts surrounding the future of many of their first-team stars.
However, with a number of ambitious Scottish clubs preparing to make their move, Rangers should not wait around. The Gers may have found form in front of goal since Pedro Caixinha’s arrival but, ironically, most of those strikes have come from the soon-to-be out of contract Kenny Miller.
The Portuguese has one hell of a challenge on his hands replacing the evergreen goal-machine in the summer.
Yet Boyce could be the ideal fit. The 26-year-old’s deal expires in the summer of 2018, meaning he would hardly cost an arm and a leg.
And Rangers are too all aware of Boyce’s ability. After all, he led the line superbly as Ross County snatched a draw at Ibrox in February, proving himself as one of the most complete centre-forwards in the Scottish Premiership.
The fact that he outshone last summer’s marquee signing, Joe Garner, who has scored just five goals in 27 league games, should also be enough to encourage Rangers to throw their hat into the ring.
