Jason Holt scored his first League One goal for Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town on Saturday, while on loan from Glasgow Rangers.

On-loan Rangers midfielder Jason Holt admits he was relieved after ending his long goal drought for Fleetwood Town at the weekend, while speaking to the Blackpool Gazette.
The 26-year-old has been a key player in Joey Barton’s side since moving to Highbury on a temporary basis last summer, establishing himself as one of the first names on the Cod Army team sheet.
While Holt has impressed with his work rate, goals have been in short supply. He had not scored in League One prior to Saturday’s 2-0 win against Plymouth Argyle, his only other strike in Fleetwood colours coming in the EFL Cup against Crewe Alexandra seven months ago.
Unsurprisingly then, the former Hearts enforcer could hardly hide his delight after opening the scoring against Plymouth.
“I’m happy and a bit relieved at the same time. As midfielders you want to help the team and get your goal tally up,” said Holt.
“I think the midfield need to chip in with more. Throughout the season I’ve been getting in the box and into some good positions without that end product.

“At the start of the season, when the boys were doing well and we were on a good run of form, I felt quite good.”
Holt was a key player at Rangers under Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty but he failed to impress Steven Gerrard in the off-season, moved on after the arrivals of Lassana Coulibaly, Ovie Ejariah and co last summer.
It remains to be seen whether Holt will be handed a second chance to force his way into Gerrard’s plans with the season nearing its conclusion.
