Jak Alnwick is on loan at League One Scunthorpe United after growing frustrated at Glasgow Rangers.
Rangers goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has opened up about his ‘tough time’ at Scunthorpe United, with The Iron in danger of relegation from League One in the final few weeks of the season, while speaking to the club’s official website.
Alnwick swapped Ibrox for Glanford Park on a 12-month deal last summer after struggling for game time in Glasgow.
The former Newcastle United youngster spent much of his time at Rangers warming the bench and fell even further down the pecking order once veteran Allan McGregor returned on a free transfer from Hull City.
While Alnwick has impressed by and large in Scunthorpe colours, he has been unable to keep the club from falling into a relegation battle.
With five games remaining, Scunthorpe are just two points above the drop zone and they sacked manager Stuart McCall earlier this week. No wonder Alnwick admits that things have not been easy of late.
“It is a tough time. We’re at the stage where we have to bounce back,” said Alnwick, who joined Rangers from Port Vale for £250,000 (Daily Record).
“We cannot keep saying that we need a win, we need to start acting on it.
“It is all well and good training well and putting in performances, but at this stage we need points on the board. It is down to us to put those things right.”
It remains to be seen whether relegation to League Two would impact Scunthorpe’s chances of signing Alnwick on a permanent deal this summer.
