Steven Gerrard reportedly wanted to bring Liverpool’s Premier League youngster Adam Lewis to Rangers in the summer transfer window.

In defence of the much-maligned Jon Flanagan, he has spent most of his debut season at Rangers playing out of position.
A right-back by trade, 17 of his appearances in a Gers kit have come on the left. So that provides some sort of caveat for the incessant criticism that has come his way since he moved to Ibrox and reunited with his former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard.
Yet this has not stopped the doubters from sharpening their knives. Flanagan has become something of a scapegoat in recent months with his performance against lower league Cowdenbeath, when he gave away a penalty, seemingly summing up his time in Glasgow.
But has Gerrard himself also come to the conclusion that he needs a more natural option on the left-hand side? Possibly.
Because, according to the Sun (17 February, page 61), Gerrard wanted to raid Liverpool for the exciting Adam Lewis, a 19-year-old defender who has shone for the U23 side but was set to become a free agent in the summer.

Fortunately for Jurgen Klopp, however, Lewis has agreed a new four-year deal and will be promoted to Liverpool’s first-team next season.
Rangers, then, have missed out. But reports that Gerrard is looking for defensive additions suggest that Flanagan’s torrid time at left-back could finally be coming to an end.
