Barcelona’s La Liga champion Suarez is one of the world’s best strikers. Can Rangers’ Scottish Premiership star Morelos follow in his footsteps?

Michael Mols has paid tribute to Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos and claims he is Ibrox’s answer to Luis Suarez, in quotes reported by the Daily Record.

The Colombian has been a huge hit in Scottish football since he arrived in the summer of 2017 from HJK Helsinki.

Few had heard of the £1 million man back then. But he is a household name north of the border now, having scored 29 goals in a remarkable 2018/19 campaign.

As a result, Morelos has allegedly caught the eye of clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City, with Sky claiming that his price-tag has rocketed to £20 million.

Mols, who once led the line for Rangers himself with much distinction, has gone as far as to compare the combustible front man to Barcelona star Suarez; for both his clinical finishing and a rather unwelcome tendency to let his temper get the better of him.

“I was curious when he signed for Rangers because the league in Finland isn’t as strong and we had doubts about whether he could do it at a higher level but he has proved himself in Scotland,” said Mols, who wanted to sign Morelos during his time as a scout for Dutch side Utrecht.

“Alfredo is still young so he has to improve. If he can get his temperament under control or use it in a good way then he can make the next step. He is very dangerous in the box. I compare him to Suarez who’s also South American and there are similarities in their character.

“He will learn – you can see now with Suarez he doesn’t do stupid things.”

Suarez, who joined Barca from Liverpool in a £75 million deal five years ago (BBC), has put a series of controversies behind him in recent seasons to let his prolific goalscoring do the talking instead.

And Morelos, who has been sent off four times this season alone, could do with taking a leaf out of the Uruguayan’s book.
