Could Cardiff City be considering a move for the Glasgow Rangers man?

Josh Windass of Rangers controls the ball during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on January 24, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Josh Windass finished last season as Rangers’ top scorer, netting 17 goals in all competitions. But that does not mean he is guaranteed to play a key role in Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox revolution.

The Scottish Sun stated that Windass is one of the players who could be sold by Rangers this summer, although the former Accrington Stanley starlet should not be short of interest.

Despite seemingly being discarded by Rangers, Windass has admirers in the Premier League with the Scottish Sun adding that newly promoted Cardiff City would be willing to pay £3 million for the 24-year-old.

And, in an interview with talkSPORT (broadcast on 24 May at 6:00am), Cardiff manager Neil Warnock might just have hinted at his interest in Windass.

“I have looked at two or three players in Scotland,” the experienced gaffer admitted, before stating that he was looking for bargains with Cardiff boasting one of the smallest budgets in the top flight.

“The money people are talking about is crazy. I value someone at £5m but the club want £12-15m – it is silly money.”

A deal for Windass, then, should be Warnock’s top priority. The midfielder only signed a new contract until 2021 back in February, so the fact he could be available for around £3 million makes him a real bargain in today’s market.

And Windass should fit right in at Cardiff, who boast a number of players capable of scoring goals from midfield including Joe Ralls and former Hearts ace Callum Paterson. Perhaps Windass could replace Craig Bryson, who spent last season on loan in South Wales from Derby County.

In short, Windass represents that rare mix of value and potential.
