Greg Docherty is on loan at League One Shrewsbury Town from Glasgow Rangers but will Steven Gerrard be impressed?

There was one area of Greg Docherty’s game that he hoped to improve when leaving Rangers for a loan spell at Shrewsbury Town in the summer – scoring goals.

And the stats suggest that Docherty has already succeeded. In 122 games north of the border for Hamilton and the Gers, the dynamic midfielder hit the back of the next just eight times.

But he has already celebrated six goals in 20 games for the Shrews, firing home another in the 2-0 home win against Plymouth Argyle in midweek.

As a result, Docherty has secured a career-best goal tally despite the fact that we are still a few days away from December.

“It’s my best tally yet so I’ll take it!” Docherty told the Shropshire Star.

“I wanted to add goals to my game, it was part of the reason I came here, so I’m extremely happy and if I keep doing that and we keep winning then it’ll be great.”

As it stands, it seems inevitable that Docherty, who cost £675,000 from Hamilton in January, will be handed a second chance at Ibrox once his loan spell in the third tier of English football comes to an end.

Director of football Mark Allen told the club’s official website that the Glasgow giants were keeping a close eye on Docherty’s form south of the border and they will surely have been impressed.
