Jon Flanagan produced another unconvincing display as Steven Gerrard’s Rangers edged into the Scottish Cup fifth round.

Rangers progressed to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup on Wednesday thanks to a 3-1 win against Cowdenbeath at the Central Park Stadium.
But that does not mean Steven Gerrard was jumping for joy at the final whistle. Goals from Andy Halliday, Kyle Lafferty and Lassana Coulibaly might have put Rangers in complete control at the interval but there was a sense that they were going through the motions against lower-league opposition.
“I thought we got sloppy and complacent. We were nervy at times and gave them opportunities where we may have been punished on a different night,” Gerrard said in quotes reported by Eurosport.
The former Liverpool captain did not name names but Rangers fans on social media are adopting a far less subtle approach in their criticism of one player in particular – Jon Flanagan.

Gerrard’s one-time Anfield teammate replaced James Tavernier and started in his favoured right-back position but hardly seized his chance to impress in cup competition. Flanagan, who has left Rangers fans divided ever since his arrival, gifted the hosts a route back into the game with a clumsy challenge in the penalty area straight after the interval.
As some fans have pointed out, maybe this is why Rangers have signed Matt Polster.
