Mark Warburton departed Rangers almost a year ago and the Scottish Premiership giants seem to be much stronger these days.
After a year-and-a-half back in Scotland’s top flight, it appears that Rangers are finally heading in the right direction.
The Glasgow giants boast a decent squad combining youth and promise with Scottish football experience and, with the likes of Jamie Murphy, Declan John and Greg Docherty arriving in the last few transfer windows, Rangers’ pulling power seems to be at its strongest since they were demoted to the fourth tier in 2012.
But Rangers fans are a little unconvinced by former manager Mark Warburton’s claims that he has a lot to do with the success of Graeme Murty’s current side.
“I’m not being arrogant about this. It’s the last thing I’d be,” Warburton, who was replaced by Pedro Caixinha after a difficult start to 2017, told the Scottish Sun.
“But, yes, I’m very satisfied at seeing a number of the boys we brought to the club still being important players for Rangers.”
Yes, Warburton led Rangers back to the Premiership and, yes, many of their star performers were brought to Ibrox during his time at the helm, including James Tavernier, Wes Foderingham and Josh Windass.
But its worth pointing out that both Tavernier and Windass have improved immeasurably since Warburton departed almost a year ago. And while the former Nottingham Forest and Brentford boss did pull off a few bargain deals, there was no shortage of flops at Ibrox during his year-and-a-half in charge.
Rangers fans are keen to remind their former boss of exactly that.
