Ferguson may not have won a game in charge of League Two Clyde since November but that has not stopped speculation linking him to Rangers.

As auditions go, Barry Ferguson’s claims to be the new manager of Rangers are not particularly convincing. He may have been an influential leader on the Ibrox turf, guiding the club to five Scottish Premiership titles, but his albeit short career off the pitch has been rather less trophy-laden.
Yet, as reported by the Daily Record, speculation has intensified that the former skipper could be set for a dramatic return to Glasgow after rumours broke suggesting he had offered his resignation as manager of League Two side Clyde.
The publication adds that Ferguson has been asked to take stock of his position by the club chiefs though it surely cannot be a coincidence that these developments have emerged on the back of Clyde’s 1-0 defeat to Annan Athletic means the promotion favourites are now ten without a win.
Ferguson may be loved at Ibrox but, as yet, he has done little to prove to his otherwise adoring fan base that he can drag Rangers back to the big time following the departure of Mark Warburton two weeks ago.

If the Ally McCoist experiment taught us anything, it is that legendary status counts for little when results do not go your way.
