Greg Docherty was outstanding as Shrewsbury Town beat League One Barnsley – does he have a future in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers?

If Greg Docherty wants to secure a future at Rangers then he’s certainly going the right way about it.
Steven Gerrard brought a number of new midfielders to Ibrox during the summer transfer window, meaning Docherty quickly fell down the pecking order just a few months after his £675,000 move from Hamilton Academical.
But the 22-year-old has not let his head drop and is seizing his opportunity at Shrewsbury Town with both hands. Docherty has produced a number of eye-catching performances in the third tier of English football and was the Shrews’ main man on Tuesday, scoring and assisting a goal in an impressive 3-1 win against high-flying Barnsley.

Fortunately for the energetic midfielder, who has been likened by some to Ibrox hero Steven Davis, Gerrard has not forgotten about him. Speaking in his press conference on Tuesday, the Rangers manager insists that Docherty’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed.
“We are aware that Greg Docherty is shining down there, we sent someone to watch him recently.”
Despite boasting a whole host of talented midfield options, Rangers fans know a good player where they see one and are already counting down the days until Docherty is back at Ibrox.
