The Gers could sell the 25-year-old for ten times as much as they paid for him.

Rob Kiernan may be one of the first names on Mark Warburton’s team sheet but could Rangers really refuse £2 million for his admittedly rather useful services?

According to the Daily Mail, that is precisely the amount Fulham are prepared to offer for a player who has started 16 league games north of the border in 2016/17 since arriving for just £200,000 a year and a half ago (Sky Sports).

Therefore, Warburton has quite the decision to make surrounding the immediate future of his first ever signing at Ibrox.

A technically gifted, intelligent centre-half comfortable with the ball at his feet and outspoken in his defence of John Stones, few players fit Warburton’s passing philosophy better than the former Wigan Athletic youngster.

And, with Clint Hill fast approaching the big four zero and Philippe Senderos frozen out since October, the analytical side of the brain suggests that Kiernan is a vital part of Rangers short-term and long-term future.

The logical approach, however, would look at the price tag with dollar signs in its eyes. £2 million would provide Warburton with vital funds in January and an opportunity to enhance vulnerabilities within the wider squad. After all, Rangers can hardly throw money around a la Celtic.

But what is the most effective way of breaching the gap to their runaway city rivals? Keeping their best players or selling and signing intelligently? The fans seem to have made their decision.
