Jordan Rossiter looks likely to bid farewell to Ibrox this month with Wigan Athletic closing in, but could Jason Holt follow him out of Rangers?

Erik Sviatchenko of Celtic vies with Jason Holt of Rangers during the Rangers v Celtic Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match at Ibrox Stadium on December 31, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Jason Holt’s Rangers future looked bleak at the start of the season.

Pedro Caixinha’s vast array of imports left the tenacious midfielder well down the pecking order with Ryan Jack, Graham Dorrans, Carlos Pena and the returning Niko Kranjcar ahead of him in the pecking order.

By the first week of September, Holt’s only action had come in that humiliating Europa League defeat to the minnows of Progres Niederkorn.

And although the 24-year-old was handed an opportunity to force his way back into the side thanks to the sacking of Caixinha, the struggles of Pena and a long-term injury to Dorrans, it seems that his place in the first-team may only be temporary.

After all, Rangers have been linked with a whole host of midfielders this month. Last season’s loan star Emerson Hyndman was tipped to return from Bournemouth while the likes of Will Vaulks has been linked and a £300,000 bid already made for Hamilton starlet Greg Docherty, as reported by the Daily Record.

Holt’s position, then, looks set to come under scrutiny once more. And with the perma-crocked Jordan Rossiter already expected to leave this month, with the Daily Record reporting that Wigan Athletic are lining up a move, Rangers fans believe that Holt may not be far behind.
