Glenn Middleton scored twice as Graeme Murty’s Rangers beat Old Firm rivals Celtic in the SPFL Reserve League on Monday.
Graeme Murty has paid tribute to Rangers youngsters Cammy Palmer and Josh McPake after an impressive victory over Celtic on Monday, speaking to the club’s official website.
The Gers were left heartbroken by a late James Forrest strike in the recent Old Firm derby at Parkhead but they exercised at least some measure of revenge on their Glasgow neighbours this week with a wonderful Glenn Middleton double inspiring a 2-0 triumph in the SPFL Reserve League.
Former Norwich City winger Middleton was undoubtedly the star of the show, scoring a superb individual effort as part of a match-winning brace, while January signing Matt Polster continued to impress behind the scenes.
But Murty was quick to praise young duo Palmer and McPake too, who once again stood out for the club’s second string.
“Two that stood out I thought in different ways were Cammy Palmer (below) and Josh McPake,” Murty said.
“Cammy has really come into his own this season as the captain of this team, but also he is a bit of the glue that binds everything together.
“And Josh is a fairly mercurial talent that can do lots and lots of different things with the ball, and he has the challenge of putting it all together in a performance.”
Skipper Palmer spent 10 years in Canada before joining Rangers’ academy at the age of 12. It seems only a matter of time before he is a first-team regular.
Jet-heeled whizkid McPake, meanwhile, won the academy’s Player of the Year award last week.
