Will Scottish Premiership giants Rangers succeed in signing Nottingham Forest’s Championship centre-back Joe Worrall permanently?
Steven Gerrard is already drawing up his transfer plans for 2019. And the Rangers boss is keen to tie down a number of the loanees who have enjoyed impressive starts to life at Ibrox.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Gerrard has admitted that he would love to sign Ovie Ejaria, Ryan Kent, Lassana Coulibaly and Joe Worrall on a permanent basis.
Given how highly rated Ejaria and Kent are at Liverpool, the former Anfield skipper could be fighting a losing battle with the midfield duo. But tying down Worrall looks like a possibility as long as Aitor Karanka remains at Nottingham Forest.
Worrall fell out of favour as soon as Karanka replaced Mark Warburton at the City Ground in January and tumbled further down the pecking order after Michael Dawson, Micahel Hefele, Jack Robinson and Tobias Figueiredo were brought in over the summer.
And with Forest looking increasingly solid at the back in Worrall’s absence, there is little reason to suggest that the 21-year-old could force his way back into Karanka’s plans.
Nottingham Forest have conceded just nine goals in nine Championship games and have kept two clean sheets in their last three games now against Swansea City and Rotherham United on Saturday.
So Rangers may find that Forest are willing to negotiate a permanent deal for England’s Toulon Tournament winning captain.
