Craig Conway should leave Blackburn Rovers after suffering relegation – and he’d still be ideal for Rangers and Leeds United.

Craig Conway of Blackburn Rovers celebrates scoring his teams first goal

With Blackburn Rovers suffering the ignominy of becoming the first Premier League champion to drop into the third tier of English football, the talk will inevitably turn to potential exits from Ewood Park.

There will surely be no shortage of suitors for highly-rated young winger Connor Mahoney, experienced centre-back Charlie Mulgrew or top scorer Danny Graham.

However, could relegation spell the end for one of the club’s most loyal players? Craig Conway has been a virtual ever-present during his four seasons at Ewood Park, making well over 100 Championship appearances.

He’s also been one of the most consistent since joining from Cardiff City, a bundle of energy and creativity on the wing. It follows, then, that Conway could consider himself unfortunate if he was playing in League One next season, especially after tallying an impressive six goals and five assists this season.

Escape route?

Though if he’s looking for an escape route, you wonder whether there could be an option available to him back home. Ally McCoist was keen on making Conway his first signing at Glasgow Rangers after he left Dundee United on a free in the summer of 2011, as reported by the BBC.

They add that Leeds United were also interested before Conway penned terms with Cardiff. Flash forward six years and Rangers and Leeds are still in need of a player with his creative cutting edge.

Rangers will lose Bournemouth loanee Emerson Hyndman at the end of the season with star winger Barrie McKay possibly not far behind after rejecting a new deal. Meanwhile, at Elland Road, a galling lack of creativity, led by the decline of Pablo Hernandez, cost Leeds a place in the play-offs.

And loanees Alfonso Pedraza, Hadi Sacko and Mo Barrow (below) are all set to leave as it stands.

Therefore, now would be the perfect time for Rangers or Leeds to get their man at last.

And surely even the most ardent Blackburn fan would forgive Conway for jumping ship.
