Emerson Hyndman will leave Bournemouth on loan but could now be heading to the Championship with Sunderland rather than a return to Rangers.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has high hopes for Emerson Hyndman. But the American midfielder has been unable to force his way into the Cherries’ starting XI this season, and it appears that another loan move away from the Vitality Stadium would do him some good.

According to the Sun, Scottish Premiership giants Rangers were considering bringing Hyndman back to Ibrox one year after he headed to Glasgow on loan and made a major impact.

The 21-year-old added creativity, verve and dynamic thrust to Rangers’ sluggish midfield and, with the likes of Graham Dorrans injured and Carlos Pena heading back to Mexico, another spell in royal blue appeared to make sense for all parties.

That was before Rangers agreed a deal to sign Greg Docherty from Hamilton, however.

As reported by the Daily Record, the 21-year-old midfielder is set to complete a dream move to Ibrox after Graeme Murty’s side met Hamilton’s £650,000 asking price.

As such, it appears unlikely that Rangers will now pursue the short-term, quick-fix option that is Hyndman.

But it any club needs affordable players now, it is Sunderland. The debt-ridden Wearsiders will be restricted to loan deals this month after failing to find buyers for the available trio of Lamine Kone, Didier Ndong and Jack Rodwell.

And according to the Chronicle, Sunderland boss Chris Coleman was hoping to address his side’s startling lack of creativity with signing of Hyndman for the rest of the season.

The former Fulham player has the talent to walk into Sunderland’s starting XI. And their hopes of signing him might just have gotten a little easier.
