Regan Hendry captained Celtic at U21 level but he never made a Scottish Premiership appearance for the Hoops.
Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn is ‘delighted’ to have concluded a deal for Celtic youngster Regan Hendry after snapping up the youngster on a free transfer, as reported by Fife Today.
The 21-year-old midfielder joined Celtic back in 2015 but he failed to break into the first team under either Ronny Deila or Brendan Rodgers despite captaining the Glasgow giants at U21 level.
Instead, Hendry was forced to look elsewhere for first-team experience. He played 13 games for Raith Rovers during a loan spell at Stark’s Park last season and the League One outfit have now seized their chance to sign Hendry on a permanent basis.
Hendry’s addition has gone down very well with Raith supporters, who reacted with plenty of glee on social media once the deal was announced.
And it seems that Rovers boss McGlynn shares their enthusiasm for the highly-rated Hendry.
“I am delighted to have signed someone of Regan’s ability,” McGlynn told Fife Today.
“He showed to everyone earlier in the season before he picked up his knee injury what a good player he was and how he was instrumental in the style of our play.”
Celtic have discarded a number of exciting youngsters in recent seasons only to see them impress elsewhere, including Kilmarnock duo Eamonn Brophy and Stuart Findlay. They also re-signed Lewis Morgan last January, a few years after releasing the fleet-footed winger.
Hendry will be hoping to make a progress in a similar vein and show that Celtic made a mistake.
