Wolverhampton Wanderers loaned Spain U21 striker Rafa Mir to Las Palmas once they had sealed their promotion to the Premier League.
The expectations were perhaps a little too high when Rafa Mir arrived at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the January transfer window.
Yes, the Black Country side beat the giants of Real Madrid to his signature, but Mir was still a 20-year-old who had only ever made two league appearances during his time with Valencia.
The Spaniard played just 29 minutes of football in the second half of last season as Wolves cruised to the Championship title. He was then farmed out on loan to Las Palmas in the summer with regular game time in Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI hard to come by.
Fortunately, however, Mir has found minutes and goals easier to come by in Spain. The youngster has now scored two goals in four starts for Las Palmas and netted a hugely important winner off the bench in the recent 1-0 victory over Malaga.
Mir has also scored twice in two games for the Spain U21s, having only made his debut in August. So the signs are now looking good.
With the struggling Leo Bonatini without a goal now in 10 months of league football, there is room at Molineux for a new striker to provide support for Raul Jimenez and Rafa Mir could return a more confident and mature player.
