Everton reportedly enquired about signing Florin Andone from La Liga strugglers Deportivo la Coruna last year.

Back in September, Everton were scouring the continent for a man capable of filling the boots of Romelu Lukaku in attack.

And Deportivo La Coruna’s Romanian international Florin Andone was one of the names in the frame, according to the Sun.

The powerful front-man had scored 12 goals for a shot-shy Depor team in 2016/17 but his price-tag looked very steep, with president Tino Fernandez saying it would cost £27 million to prise him away from the Riazor.

Although, as we head into the summer transfer window, could Andone once again find himself on Everton’s radar?

According to the Argus, the former Cordoba hit man is set to leave Deportivo this summer after Clarence Seedorf’s side were relegated from La Liga. And it is understood that the release clause in Andone’s contract has now dropped to just over £5 million.

It is not often you can sign a fully-fledged international number nine for less than an eight-figure sum these days so, with Everton seemingly looking for another striker to rival Cenk Tosun in attack, Andone should come under consideration again with his price dropping by £23 million.

He has scored just twice in January, and only seven times all season. But critics should remember that Andone has been playing in a side with a real dearth of creativity, and just 16 of his 28 La Liga appearances have come from the start due to Deportivo’s galling resistance to a two-man attack.

Andone has the pace, power and finish skills to thrive in a better team…such as Everton.
