Brendan Rodgers worked with Steven Caulker at Swansea City – but could the QPR defender reunite with his former manager at Scottish giants Celtic?

Queens Park Rangers are keen to keep one defender and sell another in the January transfer window.
According to The Sun (15th December, on page six of it’s Goals pullout), QPR are planning contract talks with experienced centre-back Nedum Onuoha with his contract due to expire in six months’ time.
But with QPR needing to offload a few players due to Financial Fair Play concerns, the report adds that Steven Caulker could be heading out of the door of Loftus Road.

This, however, could play into Celtic’s hands. It is common knowledge that the Scottish champions want a new centre-back in January and manager Brendan Rodgers knows Caulker well, having worked with him during the defender’s 2010/11 loan spell at Swansea City.
And, after Caulker came clean about his troubles off the pitch earlier in the year, Rodgers suggested to the Daily Record that he would be interested in helping his former player get his career back on track after difficult spells at Southampton and Liverpool.

At just 25, the former England international still has a lot to offer and Rodgers is a master at resurrecting careers. Just ask Craig Gordon, Scott Sinclair or Scott Brown.
And with Rodgers’ hopes of signing RB Leipzig’s Marvin Compper hitting the buffers with the Bundesliga clubs’ manager Ralf Hasenhuttl unwilling to sell in January, per the Scottish Sun, Caulker’s sudden availability should give Celtic food for thought.
