Queens Park Rangers reportedly want to bring Almeria’s Segunda striker Sekou Gassama to the Championship – will Mark Warburton get another goal-scorer?
Queens Park Rangers will have to pay around £5 million if they want to bring prolific Almeria striker Sekou Gassama to Loftus Road in January. At least, that is what the club’s general director, Mohamed El Assy, has told El Pais.
The Sun (22 September, page 61) reported over the weekend that high-flying QPR have been impressed by a Spanish-born striker who is scoring goals for fun in the second tier with nouveau-riche Almeria.
Gassama has five in seven games already, firing his club to the top of the Segunda table.
And any hopes that QPR might have had of snapping up the 24-year-old on a cut price deal, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, have now been extinguished.
“Gassama is the top scorer of the second division. If he scores three more goals, how much will Gassama be worth? Minimum 5-6 million euros (£4.4 to £5.3 million). We are not idiots!” El Assy said.
That might be a bit too rich for a QPR side who found themselves under a transfer embargo very recently.
