Nottingham Forest want Queens Park Rangers midfielder Massimo Luongo – and he could be replaced by West Ham’s Josh Cullen.
Massimo Luongo appears to be facing an uncertain future at Queens Park Rangers. According to The Times, the Australian international midfielder is a transfer target for Championship rivals Nottingham Forest this summer.
An intelligent and technically gifted player, Luongo has been a key figure since moving to QPR from Swindon Town two years ago and adapted well to a deep lying central midfield role under Ian Holloway at Loftus Road last season.
And with Forest’s central midfield pairing Chris Cohen and David Vaughan not getting any younger, the duo have a combined age of 64, Mark Warburton will know that finding a long-term successor should not be put on the backburner.
Luongo was named Player of the Tournement as Australia lifted the first major trophy in their history, the 2015 Asian Cup
Former Tottenham Hotspur youngster Luongo, blessed with an excellent passing range and work ethic, could be exactly the man they need at the age of 24.
And it appears that, if Forest were to step up their interest, QPR have already laid the foundations for life after Luongo.
Life after Luongo
The London club, who finished two points above the drop zone last season, have already secured the sought-after signature of Barnsley scrapper Josh Scowen. A tenacious and tough-tackling central midfielder, the highly-rated Scowen should add a sheet of steel to QPR’s midfield.
Josh Cullen is reportedly surplus to requirements at West Ham
The 21-year-old stood out on loan at Bradford City last season, his all-action performances helping them to the League One play-off final.
Therefore, the addition of one, potentially two new central midfielders should give Forest hope that Luongo could be available this summer.
