Serge Aurier needs to prove himself at Tottenham Hotspur next season after a difficult debut campaign in the Premier League

For Serge Aurier, the pressure is on.
The erratic Ivorian had a decidedly mixed debut season for Tottenham Hotspur after last summer’s £23 million move from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain. From silly red cards against West Ham to crucial penalties gifted away in Champions League clashes versus Juventus and Real Madrid, the jury is very much out and with good reason.
And Aurier’s status at Spurs could be threatened further with Kieran Tripper, his competition for the right-back berth, playing out of his skin in front of a worldwide audience for England over in Russia.
So Spurs fans have taken this opportunity to send a warning to Aurier as he returned for his first day of pre-season training on Monday.
Tottenham had been linked to a whole host of right-backs earlier in the window, from Danilo D’Ambrosia to Ricardo Pereira, but it seems that Aurier will be given another chance to prove himself in North London by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
But he needs to cut those naïve mistakes out of his game and fast if he is to avoid a repeat of what happened at PSG where a promising career fizzled out as he was replaced by a more solid and reliable alternative.
And Trippier is that alternative.
