Lallana’s excellent form on Merseyside has reportedly attracted attention from across the continent.
PSG Director of Football Patrick Kluivert has told Journal du Dimanche that the Ligue 1 champions want to add to their squad in January – but a creative midfielder of Adam Lallana’s ilk is not necessarily at the top of their list.
Les Parisiens have been oddly fallible this season under new coach Unai Emery, losing twice already this term to drop to third in the standings behind prolific Monaco and a Mario Balotelli-lead Nice.
In particular, PSG have struggled for creativity in recent months with Angel Di Maria failing to replicate his career best form from last season, Hatem Ben Arfa failing to impress his new manager, and Jese Rodriguez and Javier Pastore struggling with various injuries.
Consequently, The Sun reported that the Qatar-backed capital club were preparing to offer a £40 million transfer fee, and £200-per-week in wages, to prise in-form Lallana away from Anfield.
The former suave former Southampton skipper has been in inspired form this season, scoring and creating in equal measure as a key part of Liverpool’s attack.
However, Kluivert has claimed that PSG will instead be looking to sign a defender to replace David Luiz and also add a new centre-forward to their ranks rather than pursue yet another creative midfielder.
“It was impossible [to replace Luiz in the summer] because he left on the last day of the window,” Kluivert told Journal du Dimanche. “We are searching for someone who can play there and in other roles.”
“I am looking for a goal scorer. We are analysing the situation to make the best choice.”
His comments will undoubtedly come as a relief to Liverpool fans but, after enduring two difficult seasons on Anfield, it is unlikely Lallana would consider leaving a club who appear to be going places, and fast, under Jurgen Klopp.
