It is an odd sensation seeing Eunan O’Kane being lauded on social media.

The midfielder became something of a scapegoat during his final few months at Leeds United, frequently criticised by some sections of the Elland Road support for his allegedly ineffective performances in the centre of the park.

And, with Leeds enjoying a fine start to the Championship season under Marcelo Bielsa, topping the table after six games played, it is unlikely that O’Kane will be missed now he has joined League One Luton Town on a season-long loan.

But the oft-criticised Irishman might have found his level. O’Kane made his debut for Luton when they were one goal down against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday. And the 28-year-old changed the game.

He had a hand in the Hatters’ equaliser and, in just 26 minutes on the pitch, seems to have already established himself as a fan favourite.

O’Kane was excellent two seasons ago for Leeds and, when he is on form, he has the potential to be one of the best players in League One. So this summer move is already shaping up to be perfect for all parties.
